Anyone giving any consideration to putting together a drug intervention or an alcohol intervention is already aware of the seriousness of the situation and how critical it can be. It is certainly not at all a stretch to say that this can be a life or death project to take on for the future of the intended recipient. Excessive alcohol abuse and drug abuse left unchecked can and will often lead to a premature death at its worst but certainly a vast array of physical, emotional and mental problems at its best. The victim struggling will go through never-ending turmoil and the reality is that everyone else in their life be it spouse, children, other family members, friends or co-workers will also find their lives being constantly turned upside-down in one way or another. Usually when it gets to the time of a family intervention being considered it means that most other potential attempts at reaching the person on a one-on-one level have failed.
One of the most important things to be thought of prior to the intervention is how best to handle it. There are people experienced in these matters and consulting with an intervention specialist is highly recommended whenever it is possible to do so. Right at the start however the people who are going to be involved carrying out the process who are all obviously people who deeply care must be certain they are all on the same page and prepared to deliver the same message to the person suffering. The last thing one wants to happen is to get in a room with the individual suffering and blurt out different suggestions or even worse angry comments that are simply going to turn off the intended persons mind from hearing anything else being said. The intervention specialist will always direct those involved to have a straight-forward plan that will get the message across that the person is truly loved and with the proper help and guidance can in fact still have a decent life for themselves.
The answer that is often suggested is if at all possible to get the person involved into a rehabilitation facility where they can find themselves in a place with others struggling and committed to beating their addiction as well as experienced professionals who provide the needed guidance and direction it can be a new beginning. In other situations where rehab is not an option they can be directed to an outpatient program or to an established one such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous where they can find the help they need to make it through another day and eventually form a plan to reach even higher goals and destinations. The good news one wants to get into the intervention and have the person involved take out of it is that there is indeed still HOPE and one can in fact have a better life.
